Tenchi Universe
The Tenchi Universe series is the Tenchi Muyo! TV series that aired in Japan which is, in this case, English dubbed. It's like they took some of the best things about the first Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki series and incorperated it with lots of new charecters, situations, and even another Ryo-Ohki! (Well, not exactly, but- you'll see.) You get to meet all of the charecters all over again (or for some of you, for the first time {poor souls who haven't seen any of Tenchi Muyo! before}) in new, slightly different, (sometimes compleatly different,) but usually funny ways.
Only thing I don't like about this series, no wait, let me refrase that, the only things they needed more of was 1. More episodes in the series (Oh please don't say it's over!) and 2. More Washu!!
What can I say? This series is fan-tast-eek! You definatly should see it. No, check that, you MUST see it.
Volume 1: Tenchi on Earth (Earth 1)
Episode 1: No Need for Discussions!
This episode starts with Tenchi remembering the 'days that were like a dream, a dream which we thought would go on forever, a neverending carnival.' (Or something like that.)
'Yes, I remember. It all began that day, when...'
Here we meet Tenchi Masaki (that is, those of us who didn't know of him before) your average high school student, (or so one might think,) having the same old boring, typical day, untill a spaceship crashlands pretty close to him! Upon inverstigating, he finds Ryoko, who is being chased by an 'infamous criminal/space pirate'and is in need of being saved from this ruthless criminal. (Yeah, right.) You meet Nobuyuki (Tenchi's father, forgive me if I spelled it wrong) and Katsuhito (Tenchi's grandfather) too. Also get to meet Mihoshi in this episode!
Episode 2: No Need for a Princess!
Well... here comes Ayeka! And she hates Ryoko, and they get in another one of their big fights, yadda yadda yadda. More of the old rivalry stuff, you know.
Episode 3: No Need for Worries!
A girl named Sasami comes to Earth searching for her sister, and Ryoko has a baby! (Well, sort of...)
Episode 4: No Need for Monsters!
There is a legend of a goblin who is sealed on the grounds of the Masaki shrine in a cave, and that is where Ryoko decides to take Tenchi for their first date... and, you know how Ryoko is... and what she's going to try and do... never mind.
Of course Ayeka gets in a froth and gets all jelous and such and storms off with the other girls to find Tenchi and Ryoko, and they get in another scrap. (As usual.) Course, they accidentally resurrect the deamon/goblin. And it turns out to be none other than our own dear and belloved- WASHU!! I love the Washu puppets A & B, don't you?
Volume 2: Tenchi on Earth (Earth 2)
Episode 5: No Need for Partners!
Kiyone had been down on her luck for a while now, ever since she was made partners with Mihoshi. (Not hard to see why, eh?)
But about a month ago, she recived the news that her 'beloved' partner was killed while persuing the space pirate Ryoko.
Wow, looks like her luck's finally changed for the better, right?? Not for long.
Now she's learned that Mihoshi might not be dead, after all. "Oh please, please, PLEASE DON'T LET MIHOSHI BE ALIVE!!" Oh well. Poor Kiyone has to go all the way to some place out in the boonies called Earth (Earth? Where the Hell is that? Can't say for sure, isn't on any map I know of.)
Looks like her hopes have just been thrown in the blender and someone hit fappé, don't it?
Episode 6: No Need for Resident Officers!
Mihoshi and Kiyone are now living on earth and even though their rent is about as low as it can be, they still have to take LOTS ofpart time jobs to pay it! And they still have to handle the calls/reports/assignments/whatevertheheckyou'dcallit coming in from headquarters. *Siiiiiiiggghh!*
Episode 7: No Need for a Carnival!
Yeah! Sasami gets to go to her first carnival on earth! Ryoko has a booth for goldfish scooping, Ayeka one for target shooting (little Ryoko dolls are the targets, ironically... and humorously enough) and Washu has a haunted house! (Uh-oh! Always do go a little overboard, don't I?)
Mihoshi and Kiyone were selling fried noodles, but for some strange reason they ran out of ingredients... so now their making Cotton candy. But with a cotton candy machine made by Washu, this could be leathal! (Uh-oh, again!)
Volume 3: Tenchi on Earth (Earth 3)
Episode 8: No Need for a Genius!
Washu has just created her best invention in seven hundred years! Yes, it's the new robo Washu, "Mega Washu!" 'Washu, you are a genius!' 'The greatest in the Universe! 'HAHAHAHAHA!!'
"Now all that's left is to input my mind data... Hey Mihoshi, you stay away from there! I'm warning you, Mihoshi, don't you touch anything around here! Good, that's better. Now, then, push the button right there to input my mind data. NO, NOT THAT ONE!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
(I'm 'add libbing' {can you do that in writing?} this stuff, okay? 'S not s'pposed to be direct from the episode, 'f you're wonderin'. K?)
"OH NO! MIHOSHI, WHAT'D YOU DO!!? THE CAPSULES ARE DISTROYED! Huh? Mega Washu? It's with out a scratch! What do you mean, your hungry?
Wait a- MIHOSHI!! HOW COULD YOUR MIND DATA OVERRIDE MINE!!??"
A robot with the strength of Washu and the mind of Mihoshi? This could be Washu's most dangerous invention yet!
Episode 9: No Need for Memories!
It's a snow day over at the Tenchi household (and everywhere else, duh. [Pardon my french {not.}])
"That's one of the things I hate about this planet, bad weather!" (We're all with you on that one, Ryoko...) But Sasami and Ryo-Ohki love the snow! (They even find Ryu-Oh's new seedling out there! {Oops, said to much.})
The snowfall also gives the three 'Misaki Men' a chance to reflect on some pleasent, and not so pleasent, memories. "Ah yes, I remember. It was snowing on that day..." -Tenchi.
Episode 10: No Need for an Arch Rival!
The bounty hunter Nagi, who always succeeds in making that those wanted who she sets her sights on are never heard from again, is after Ryoko! (By the way, she also has her little 'Dark Ryo-Ohki', Ken-Ohki, with her. Ryo-Ohki and he seem to share some sort of, shall we say, special bond.)
Volume 4: The Tenchi Genesis (Special) Episodes- Time & Space Adventures
Time & Space Adventures Parts 1-3 (Episodes 11, 12, & 13)
The Dimensional controller invented by Washu (that's me!) allows you to change the world the way you want to!
Naturally, when Washu leaves, all of the girls try to get their perfect universe, and they end up screwing up the control panel and making the dimension tuner type thing go totaly out of control.
Now they are being catupulted into different dimensions left and right, all of which are pretty weird (for example, in the second episode, it turns out that Ryoko and Ayeka actually... shall we say... have a... "special"... bond. (You don't know how much this one surprised me the first time I saw it. Well, if you saw it, you probably do know, actually. I laughed a lot after that, it's one of my favourite scenes.)
Will they be flung into different time and space forever?? (Well, obviously not, but still.)
WHY COULDN'T WASHU HAVE A DIMENSION OF HER OWN?? Wonder what that would've been like. *Sigh.* Oh well.
Volume 5: Tenchi in Space (Space 1)
Episode 14: No Need for a Rebellion!
In this 'Chapter' of the Tenchi Universe (The Space 'Chapter) Tenchi has to fly into space to help/save the girls. (Hence the name space, obviously.)
'Messengers' from Jurai come for Aykea and SasamiŠ to arrest them. You'll see!
Course, once they take Ayeka & Sasami, Ryoko starts making fun of Ayeka, and, of course, they reilize who she is and they arrest her, too.
Episode 15: No Need for an Escape!
Well, as you guessed it, there is probably an escape in here somewhere, maybe a few, you know.
Looks like Kiyone's going to have even more probablams now that she meets up her her old classmate, Mitsuki. (Mit is a real ßitch, if you ask me.)
Episode 16: No Need for Hiding!
Well, they have to find out what the heck's going on, so they head to planet Jurai.
They run out of fuel in a little bit, so they have to stop for some more. Only trouble is, they spent their money on a- well, you'll see. (Washu, Ayeka, and Ryoko all have their own song in this one. *Nudge nudge, wink wink!*)
So, to make some quick cash, they have to open a tavern...
So how will this help them to make some quick cash, one might ask? Well, if they charge the customers a little, eh, handeling charge, one might say...
Volume 6: Tenchi in Space (Space 2)
Episode 17: No Need for Hunger!
When they have engine trouble two time after time (Rrr, MIHOSHI!) their grocery supply dwindles and they are all on the brink of starvation. Ryoko has gone to get some groceries, but what is she really spending her money on? Will she get the groceries before they all starve?
Episode 18: No Need for a Ghost! <--One of the best and most interesting episodes.
On their jorney, they come to the strange 'Sargasso Sea', the place of, sort of, no return. (It's a place full of broken, wrecked, 'dead' ghost ships.)
Later at night, Sasami meets a nice, kinda eerie girl named Mirei, who invites her onto one of the 'Ghost ships'... One of my favorite episodes, not neccisarily for its 'humor content' just because it's so, sort of, touching is how you'd say it, I guess.
Episode 19: No Need for Runaways!
The Yagami gets hijacked! Now Jurai (& the galaxy police, etc.) are chasing after the hijackers instead of them...
Volume 7: Tenchi in Space (Space 3)
Episode 20: No Need for Swimsuits!
There is going to be a swimsuit contest, and all the girls that can enter, are going too! Now we'll see who really is supirior...
Plus, the prize money is- 1,000,000 JURAI!!?
Episode 21: No Need for a Checkpoint!
The girls and Tenchi have to disquise themselves to be able to get past the checkpoint to get even closer to Jurai. (Don't you just love Ayeka and Sasami's new hair styles?)
My favorite part of this episode? TENCHI HAS TO DRESS IN DRAG!! YAHOO! (Heh heh!)
Episode 22: No Need for Knights!
Katsuhito (grandfather's) indentity (his real one) is revealed!
Now all that's left to do is ressurect the two sacred knights, and their names are... (Ooo! You'll never guess! {Well, maybe you will.})
Volume 8: Tenchi in Space (Space 4)
Episode 23: No Need for Karma!
Meet Kagato, the main eviiil guy in the series, the fake emperor, the guy who wants to kill off all of the direct discendants of the Jurai bloodline, blah blah blah blah blah. You get the picture. Since Kasuhito (grandpa) is of the direct bloodline (which means tenchi is too) hmmŠ this is not good.
Episode 24: No Need for Ryouko
One of the more emotional episodes in the series (made me cry! Yeah, I know I cry real easily. Used to laugh real eaisily too.)
Ryouko offers to escort Tenchi to the acient Jurai palace after she offers herself to him and asks him to forget about Ayeka, but he refuses. Only trouble is remember that hit she recived in the combat with Kagato? She might not last to the palace.
Episode 25: No Need for a Showdown!
The final showdown between Tenchi and Kagato!
Episode 26: No Need for a Conclusion!
The final episode of the series. It wraps almost everything up, except this: Whatever became of Sasami's Uncle who helped them escape? Why did he do it? And what happend to the guy who got a crush on 'Tenco'? (Hee hee...) And a bit about Mirei I was wondering too, but they pretty much wrapped that up in that episode. So, there you go.
It's kinda' sad how the series is ending now, but They'll probably make another one one of these days. After all, this one is pretty damned new, ain't it? (TV series, I mean.) Loved it. They've got to make some more. They've just got to.
