In 1889, a boy named Jean (for those of you who don't know, that's pronounced like 'John' but with a bit of an accent) came to paris from his home in France to the World's Fair to enter in a flight contest with his plane; the prize is 20,000 franks! While there, he meets a *beautiful* girl named Nadia, who has a mysterious pendant named 'The Blue Water' that warns her when danger is approaching. She also has a trained pet lion cub named King. With the ability to speak to animals, no memory of where she comes from or her family, she works as a circus performer until one day, a woman named Grandas and her two Minions, Hanson (no relation to the 'girl' band, *shudder*) and Sanson, attempt to kidnap her and take the Blue Water. Jean falls helplessly in love with Nadia, and helps her to escape, many many times.
This series is VERY loosely based on 20,000 leagues under the sea, and I do mean VERY loosely. This is SUCH a great series, fun, funny, and series, Nadia is the first anime character I've seen who IS really beautiful. I love Jean's upbeat and positive attitude, the way nothing gets him down. he's also smart, but a little silly. I dunno, I'd go out with him. ~_~ I love the music in this series too, and a lot of the animation and the characters (except for the 'eeevill clowns'.) Some of the 'villains' are really believable, too. Before you start laughing, let me finish. Take a moment to consider: Hanson, while he may not be attractive, is very skilled. After all, he created the Gratan- err, Catarine. And Sanson, while he may be an ego maniac, is very strong. Grandas may be a little bitchy, but she is also clever, she really does seem to care about Nadia and Jean. Like when she thought she'd blown them up, she got very upset, like she was afraid for their lives. And I really like her for some reason. ~_~ What makes the villains (and characters) so believable is that they are so complicated, just like all people.
YES!!! Finally! ADV's going to release Nadia in USA!! Oh god/dess, please let them release it!! Please don't let the deal fall through!!

Comments: This is tied with Tenchi Muyo! and Slayers as my favorite series. One of the best of what entertainment has to offer, I highly reccomend Nadia.
